Carnegie Champion Schools is one of Rugby Leagues greatest success stories. The tournament was re launched in 2002 by the RFL in partnership with English Schools Rugby League and has enjoyed year on year growth ever since.
It now attracts participants from throughout the UK and is firmly established as the largest Rugby League knockout tournament in the world. Last year (2008/09) a total of 429 schools participated in the competition which included 1,318 boys teams and 185 girls teams. Incredibly over the past six years over 111,232 pupils have taken part! Regionally, we now engage over 200 teams annually. This success can be directly attributed to the support of the teachers and professional staff who drive the competition to become bigger, better and more rewarding for our children year in year out. The competition is open to all secondary schools at every age group; Boys Year 7 to 11, Girls Year 7 to 11. All national finalists will parade round the pitch at the new Wembley Stadium before the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final, with the Boys Year Seven Final being played as the curtain raiser on the hallowed Wembley turf!
