17-year-old Dan Sarginson joined the Harlequins Rugby League first team for training this week.

The young standoff, who is currently studying for his A Levels at Cavendish School in Hemel Hempstead, has been invited to train with the Super League squad during his summer holidays.

Identified as one of the future stars of the game, Hemel born Sarginson began playing at school before joining local amateur club Hemel Stags. Spotted by Quins coaches, he was invited to join the Harlequins Foundation programme and has progressed to playing at under 18s and under 20s.

Along the way he has picked up representational honours including Origin - where the best players from north and south of the river Thames compete in a series of games - and England Under 16s & 18s.

Speaking after his first training session with the team, a boxing session at Spit and Sawdust gym in Surbiton, Dan said:

"I'm really happy to be offered this opportunity. Today's session was hard work but I'm enjoying the experience and hope to make the most of it."

Dan is the next in what has become a regular production line of London born players making their way through the academy system. Chairman of Hemel Stags RLFC Bob Brown commented "We knew here at Hemel that Dan had a bright future in front of him. We are very pleased to hear of his continued progression at Harlequins and hope that he will be followed by other up and coming players from Hemel in the future."
